Hi! I'm Adam T. Hogan. I am a Ph.D. candidate in history at Texas Tech University, where I study the history of religion, environment, and tourism in the United States. My dissertation, tentatively titled "Witness to God's Creation: Cold War Religion, the Leisure Revolution, and A Christian Ministry in the National Parks," chronicles the history of religion in the U.S. National Parks. At Texas Tech, I study under Dr. Mark Stoll, one of the leading scholars on religion and environment in the U.S.
Prior to my time at Texas Tech, I earned a Master of Arts in Religion degree from Yale Divinity School. At Yale, my M.A. thesis centered on the environmental ideas and contributions of the 19th century Stone Campbell Movement. I also earned an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Alabama.
I built this website to share more about my academic work and myself. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and hiking, and spending time with my family. Originally from Southern Indiana, I especially enjoy long hikes in Brown County State Park and the Hoosier National Forest. As a National Parks buff, I aim to make it to all 63 parks, and like to share my adventures under the "Adventures" tab. I also enjoy sharing some of my writing under my "Blog" tab, though I post inconsistently.
